Many people experience trauma throughout their lives.
Sources of trauma:
- Family of origin
- Peers
- Complete strangers
- Chronic stress
- Catastrophic events like
- War
- Violence
- Floods
- Earthquakes
- Other natural disasters
This can mean it affects them in many areas of their lives, including friendships, intimate relationships, family relationships, and the work environment.
How are people affected by trauma?
They have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, and it causes them to have startled responses, flashbacks, hypervigilance, overreactions, or under reactions to things other people react to normally. It can also manifest with anxiety, depression, or compulsive behaviors, like using chemicals, gambling, an eating disorder, a shopping addiction, a video addiction, or codependent behaviors.
Our goal is to help people learn grounding techniques and stress management skills, grieve the losses they have experienced, and develop new coping skills so they can live a healthy and productive life and leave unhealthy behaviors behind.
